Colorado Fall Foliage

Fall colors have painted the high country of Colorado, especially this past week.  Fall colors, although spectacular here in Colorado, are all too quickly fleeting  lasting only around 10 days.  The 3rd week in September is usually the best, but always so hard to predict.  Elevation, shorter days, and cooler nights all play a role in the leaves changing to their magnificant billiance.  The kiss of the first snow usually puts a quick end to our colorful fall show that would rival Vermont and New Hampshire if only it lasted longer.  However, only in Colorado can you get the snow capped rugged mountains surrounding this brilliant fall display.  Hiking through one of the many mountain trails and stopping to listen to the crisp mountain breeze trickle through the Evergreens and tinkle the golden Aspen trees is enough to make you want to somehow record the moment.  More so, because it’s so fleeting and short lived here.  Only coming around to grace us for a short moment in time.   If you’re lucky enough, you’ll hear a bull elk bugling in the distance. (CLICK HERE TO HEAR A SAMPLE  )   That is when we know for certain, here in Colorado, that our warm days will soon be a thing of the past.

If you’re planning a visit to Colorado during the fall make sure to hit the high country.   West on I70 and west on I24 are some of the most beautiful drives anytime of year, but fabulous when the fall colors are in full bloom.
